26 June 2008

Thank you to all parents who attended the E-Safety afternoon and evening meetings yesterday.  Thank you to Tony Bailey, Herefordshire ICT Curriculum Consultant for all of his hard work.

It is good to hear that the information was useful for you.  For those parents unable to attend we will be arranging a repeat session in the Autumn Term.

We regret that due to the sensitive nature of the subject matter we are not able to provide copies of documentation or attach the resources used.  However, you might find the following websites of assistance :

www.childnet.com

www.kidsmart.org.uk

www.digizen.org

www.ceop.gov.uk

We look on E-safety in a similar way to road safety.  The children are using ICT daily just as they use the roads daily.  We need to give them the knowledge and skills to ensure they know how to use both safely and independently, eventually.

All of the children will be receiving E-safety training within the next few weeks, as the start for a more formal structure intended for the Autumn Term.  We will also be sending out E-safety Rules and Multimedia Consent forms for discussion, completion and return.  It is hoped that these will provide you with a good opportunity to discuss many of the issues raised and support the work we are doing at school.

Please feel free to speak to Mrs Morris if you require further information.

Walk to School week will be 19-23 May 2008. This year’s theme will link with Noise Action Week, by exploring the links between noise and walking to school.

We will be piloting our Walking Bus after school on Thursday 22 May 2008.  Don’t forget to return your booking form to Mrs Cole to book a place.

Don’t forget to fill in your daily diaries of sounds you hear on the way to school during next week and claim your stickers in your classroom.

Thank you in advance to all volunteer conductors who are making our walking bus possible.  For more information look at the Walk To School website at http://www.walktoschool.org.uk/ .

Thank you to all parents who attended the Literacy Writing Information Evening.  It was useful for the staff to hear how the children are developing with their writing at home and we hope the information helped parents understand how we approach teaching writing and how it progresses throughout the school.  For those parents unable to attend please feel free to look at the PowerPoint resource used during the evening, which can be found at the bottom of this page.

Thank you to Stephanie Austwick, Herefordshire Literacy Consultant for her hard work and enthusiasm.
